May 12: Beta City Detroit conference
The first day of the i_beta/event will be fully devoted to one city: Detroit. A city similar to Heerlen when it comes to being in beta. Very much so, being in beta, but also very different from Heerlen in size, in governance and culture. Though parallels can be drawn, good practices and strategies extracted from the stories of a motor city. In relation to shrinkage , urban transition, grass-roots initiatives and the role of the creative class. May 13: i_beta/2011 Main Event
A brimful program of exciting workshops and lectures will be presented to you at the i_beta/2011 main event. New ideas for economy, society and culture ready to inspire you, blow your mind or simply spark your enthousiasm as a creative professional, as an entrepreneur or student. Next to the program of lectures and workshops we offer open exhibitions, live art creation, a free film program and some great music. Attention! You need a ticket for the no-reservation & the reservation program ( for the reservation program, you need to make reservation on the event day itself) The open events are free accessible activities.

The Party Harders are coming to the i_beta/event! They are the ‘enfant terribles’ of the Liege music scene, those Partyharders. Who put their mark on the Belgian festival summer of 2010 with ‘The Pope of Dope’ a co-production with flemish electro phenomena “The Subs”. The hit video of the song portrays the extraordinary life of band member ‘Mon Colonel,’ dressed up as a rock ‘n roll ‘St. Nicholas’, living in Wallifornia. Everything is completely over the top with PartyHarders, the clip, their style, though if one looks a bit further the rough edges of (Los Ange)Liège appear. That’s their source of inspiration, for their music and creative entrpreneurship, the negative image of their city and their part of Belgium.
Thursday May 12 and friday May 13 the third edition of the i_beta/event was held at Heerlen. Around 3000 visitors from the Euregio Maas-Rhine attended the event and all the free available activities.
